Confused about Cycle

Post  DD627 on Sun Oct 11, 2009 7:26 pm

I am pretty new here, but was told you girls have quite a bit of great advice and info =)

i am just getting to know my cycle,so that when we TTC i will already have a pretty good idea of my body and ovulation. we have been using condoms our whole relationship but when we got married I was a little sick of always doing that so i tried to get my husband to agree to compromise, and I told him certain times were safe to be unprotected...

well seeing that my cycle is fairly regular( i always get my period around the 8th of the month) we were a tad careless around sept. 19th and 20th thinking it was safe...however no i have no period, but here is where it gets confusing.. i took a pregnancy test today since i freaked when my period didnt come... and it said not pregnant....but i my chest hurts like hell, and i am exhausted! (all thingsi would think would not even happen yet only being 3 weeks along if i was to get pregnant )

so... not real sure what all of this means... i have no added stress lately to relate the missed period too or anything.. just a little nervous thinking the pregnancy test is wrong, and we are really not ready to have a baby quite yet ..

not sure where to go from here.. just wait... test again.. no idea.. just nervous !

If you are really not ready to have a baby I wouldn't recommend not using a condom, unless you are charting on fertility friend and taking your temperature, cervical fluid, etc. to know for sure when you ovulate each cycle. And it can be different each cycle. If you are still unsure of what is going on, perhaps try to take another test in a couple of days. You may have just ovulated later this cycle and now it is a little bit longer. If you used a reliable brand name test, I am sure it is probably right. Hang in there! Smile/happy

i agree with lindzee, if you arent charting your temps there is no way to know if you ovulated or not yet, its normal for a woman to have a cycle here or there that is longer than usual! if you ovulated late then your period might not be late yet, and you also could have been fertile when you thought you werent. if your really not ready for a baby, you need to use protection all the time, or chart your temps so that you know you can have unprotected sex AFTER you confirm ovulation. in the mean time, try not to stress to badly (i know easier said than done) and wait for your period, and retest in a few days to a week if you still dont have it by then!

Re: Confused about Cycle

Hi DD and welcome to Parentise Smile/happy I am assuming cos you said that you usually get your period around the 8th of every month that you DID have your last period on the 8th of September therefore you would have been CD12 and CD13 when you had un-protected sex.

If your cycles usually wind up around the 8th of each month your cycle length must be approx 31 days and the usual length of a LP (the latter part of a cycle) is 14 days although it can vary from 10-16 days depending on when you ovulated. If we count backwards (and assume) 14 days from the 8th of October when your period was due it looks likely that you ovulated after you had unprotected sex, the date I come up with would be 25th September.

It's a lot of assumptions because:-

1.) without charting we can't be 100% sure that you have ovulated, I know you say you have regular cycles but every so often even women who's bodies run like clock work have a wacky cycle.

2.) We don't know exactly how long your LP is.

3.) If you did ovulate there is a chance that you ovulated a few days later say '3' days for arguements sake and your LP is on the longer side this would just mean that your period is due around now/tomorrow.

Did you use a decent branded pregnancy test?? If I were you I would sit tight and wait a couple of days/ 3 at the most and if there is still no signs of your period I would do another test.

I hope you get the answer you desire but I would definately recommend charting if you don't want to use condoms, you wouldn't have to take your temp every single day just the few in the middle and once you have 3 clear high temps stop again...if you need somemore advice etc..on charting please just ask I will be more than happy to run through it all with you.

Keep us posted!!!!

From personal experience I totally agree - they are less sensitive. Well I guess it's just a waiting game then DD, on my calculations there is a possiblity....although slim!! but here's the girl who had sex once using the withdrawal method and is 27 wks pregnant (well almost).
