It's not the MIL it's the FIL....

It's not the MIL it's the FIL....
It's funny cos most wives/girl friends that I know complain about the MIL interferring or being annoying but my husband doesn't have a relationship with his mother at all so I have no issues there.
But my FIL on the other hand....bless him he has such a kind heart and loves Theo to bits BUT I am starting to find him irritating, he is one of those people that have done everything and probably better than anyone else, the fact is he has done loads of amazing things in his life, for instance he was only 14 when he fought in the Hungarian Revolution and got shot in the leg, he still has the bullet in his leg
But besides all the amazing things he has done, I get fed up of when I mention something he knows better and he has a tendency to make me feel like I am in-experienced, I mean fair play he is 65 and I am 29 so he has far more life experience than me BUT he can't possibly know EVERYTHING!!
I also wanted to add that he keeps just turning up to see Theo, which of course is lovely BUT sometimes Rich and I have a nice cosy evening planned once Theo has gone to bed and it should be DING DONG in the bedroom for us but instead it's bloody DING DONG my FIL at the door! We have asked him to send us a text if he is planning on coming around but he keeps forgetting or is just passing!! Arrrrggghhhhh!!! it makes me mad bcos it just so happens that everytime my Mum calls for a chin wag or my Mum and Dad come over my FIL turns up and they feel that they aren't getting as much one to one time with us and Theo and for once I actually see my Mums point!

Re: It's not the MIL it's the FIL....
awww, im sorry georgi!!! thats crazy, i used to have a boss (when i was pregnant lol) that was like that, minus the doing very interesting things lol, she hadnt experienced life at all, but she always knew better and if something bad happened to anyone, she had always had the same thing, but WAAAAY worse lol! she drove me nuts!!!
now my FFIL drives me nuts for other reasons lol!!!
but im sorry you have to put up with that, i can see how that would be really irritating.

Re: It's not the MIL it's the FIL....
my in laws drive me nuts too! We used to have major problems with them dropping by and they would even come over when they knew my DH wasn't home and I was at the house alone. I just stopped answering the door. I know it sounds rude but they just wouldn't leave me alone. Now, they come over EVERY Sunday afternoon/early evening.... at Owen's worst part of the day.... right at dinner time and it's so annoying!
I don't have any words of wisdom but just wanted you to know you aren't alone!!!!!!
We should send all the in laws to their own island!!!!!!!!!!! Or better yet, WE should all go to OUR own island! haha!

That's so funny you should say that Lou Lou I haven't answered the door to my FIL many times, I look out of the upstairs window and see his car and just hope that Theo doesn't cry!! It's naughty but when I am home alone with Theo it's even harder on me to entertain him! (My FIL that is!)

Oh! I'm so glad I'm not the only one!!! My DH would croak if he knew I had done that!
Ya know, do you think they've just forgotten what it's like to be imposed on? I mean, didn't their in laws do the same thing and drive them nuts too?
I swear, I don't want to be like that when Owen has his own family!!

I thinkn they do you know.My mother taught me to be polite, call before you drop in...as did many other peoples parents and in turn grandparents.I thnk they may get a sudden rush of dementia,or lonliness...or dare I say 'entitlement' ?'My grandchild MY visitation rights'?
I dont know,it is annoyin though.

Re: It's not the MIL it's the FIL....
I always thought it would be my Mum who drove me up the wall when we had children not my husbands family.....and why is it that when he drops by it is usually when I have no make-up on.....he even said to me once "are you ok Georgi, you look ill!" I know him well enough I suppose to know that he didn't mean it how it came out but still he should think before he speaks.
Can I just add that my husband gets as frustrated with him just turning up which thankfully is a good thing otherwise it would probably cause
between us, my hubby doesn't know that I don't answer the door though!!

Re: It's not the MIL it's the FIL....
I don't have this problem either. We are too far away from both of our families but I think I would resort to hiding and not answering the door as well. My FIL came a little over a week after we brought Isaac home and stayed for a week or so. But he had been out of the country and the oppurtunity was perfect so I didn't mind the stay. Plus he is pretty self maintained, which was part of the understanding of his visit. Although he did ask dh "is she ok? blah blah blah." Luckily dh was like "Yeah, she just had a baby dad."
