Wow Thank you Mscherry! sounds like jayden has a healthy appetite!! Smile/happy Thank you for the reassurance and for the Brewer's Yeast Sprinkles...never heard of it!!! Thane really is just a tiny kid, and I know I shouldn't worry so much (I KNOW HOLI..I KNOW!!) but, when I looked back and saw he hadn't gained anything in 4 months I was like Uh this CAN'T be good! HE just frustrates me with his crazy eating!

But anyway, thank you very much for the schedules it helps a lot Smile/happy XXXX

Ginny
Owen is barely in the the 25th percentile for weight and he's in the 50th for height. My pediatrician said they don't worry too much with those numbers until 18 months - 24 months for girls and 24 months - 36 months for boys.

Sounds to me like Thane is just too interested in the world around him to be too bothered by food!

Ginny I wouldn't worry too much. The chart doesn't mean much and since the lack of weight gain has been when walking started, atleast that explainsit some. What about teething?? Emy hardly eats when her teeth are coming in. Emy is not even on the chart for weight(below the 5%)(but 75th for height), She weighed 17.5 lbs last time she was weighed, but was 32 inches, but she doesn't look that skinny. I think some kids just have that feathery weight and some kids are very solid. My only suggestion is maybe to forgo the juice and try to replace it with more food. I know juice can fill up a kid. Emy eats more than every kid I know all the way up to 8 year olds, and she still weighs 18 lbs. But I was small and so was her dad, so genetics plays a part too.

Our first week of swim lessons is done today, just 5 weeks to go. I think emy is having nightmares about them. She wakes up crying and tells me no water, no water. I get to take video today. I'll post it on FB

Well they aren't fun swim lessons, they are serious stuff. I don't get in with her and there isn't a get to know your instructor time. The instructor said all kids her age cry until they get independence doing it. Actually all the kids Ive seen that are older than her, up to about 4 cry also and resist.

Re: Mama and Baby's first year and beyond!

Post  24Penguins on Fri Jun 26, 2009 1:59 pm

ginny, i just wanted to post to say that sometimes i have the same concerns. kaydance will be 18 months old in less than a week, and she weighs 21lbs even right now! shes so tiny! i have no idea how tall she is though, she hasnt been measured since she was about 15 months old (and then she was 28 inches shock shes very petite lol) and some days she really doesnt seem to want to eat a lot and it really gets me worried! especially since she is in daycare all week, so i have the sheet saying what she ate that day, but not the quantities. although daycare tells me that she is one to clear her whole plate, they call her the little piggy there but its still just weird that she never gets any bigger! im hoping that at her next appt the dr will ease my worries and tell me that everything is fine. her cousin is 5 years old and only weighs 27 lbs and has had to go to dr's because she dropped off the weight charts as well, so i guess it runs in the family, but its still concerning, so i know how you are feeling. its almost like a helpless feeling because they are still acting as though they are fine, running around and playing and learning, you just wish they would eat and grow bigger like everyone elses kids!!!

p.s. you think thane was small next to tia-li remember how little kaydee is!

Re: Mama and Baby's first year and beyond!

Post  Lou Lou on Sat Jun 27, 2009 5:02 pm

Owen has had a rough two weeks. I swear, every time we go to the doctor he has a hard time after that. He has had a runny nose since last Wed and has not taken a nap until yesterday since last SUNDAY! I think it's a combination of not feeling well and separation anxiety. At first I thought he was teething but I'm not seeing any normal teething signs. Last night he started running fever. It was 100 under the arm. I've got him on Tylenol but if he's not doing better by Monday I'll take him to the doctor. He took both naps yesterday and today but I'm guessing some of that has to do with feel crummy.

We haven't had much sickness around here I guess because he's home alone with me most of the time. He's only been really sick one other time. I hate seeing him this way and it's hard for me to know what to do for him. He really ought to be resting but because he's ONE and so determined he tries to play but really doesn't feel like it! UGH! I hope it passes soon!

Are any of your babies going through or been through separation anxiety?! How long does it last and what can I do to help him through it?

Re: Mama and Baby's first year and beyond!

Post  Ginny on Sat Jun 27, 2009 8:02 pm

im sorry to hear owen isn't feeling well lou lou Cry poor little guy! i know what u mean though cuz thane stays home with the nanny and is also very rarely sick at all, not even sniffles (knock on wood! :S)

But i wanted to tell you about separation anxiety. I don't know if its worse since i am nursing, i would LOVE to see someone else's take on that!!!! But, THane is EXTREMEMLY clingy to me, and if he can't see me sometimes for one second he is yelling "MOMMY! MOMMY!" That's his new fave word Wink He has been this way, crying when I leave since he was about 1. He's 17 months now and I see no improvement, its actually much worse most days. You have your occasional "don't let the door hit you in the ass" day or so, but usually its an ear piercing wail when I leave, and the panic of "MOMMY!" fills my ears Cry Its very hard. I don't ever wake him up anymore before I leave for work, cuz its horrible!

I hope it gets better, but for me so far its been worse. It peaks at 18 months I have heard...

But every day is different, there are some days that I am like 'Hey Thane, remember me!? I'm mommy!" and then others he is right by my side at all times! Tongue I hope that Owen is better soon!

I am leaving for Panama City Beach tomorrow nite so won't be on for a week shock man what am i gonna do with no internet!? Tongue

Re: Mama and Baby's first year and beyond!

Post  skyllar on Sun Jun 28, 2009 5:01 am

Hello everybody,

Sorry for the lack of personals, I will try to get on later today to read up on everybody.

We arrived well in Germany last Tuesday. The flight was okay, but Kian did only sleep for 2 hours and the other 6 hours had to be entertained. Luckily there was plenty of kids on the plane, a few right across from our seats that Kian played with in the aisle. When approaching Frankfurt airport Kian got motion sick and vomited all over (it was very bumpy). We changed him and he vomited again. Then we took the train and arrived in the early afternoon.

Kian is doing great. He is not afraid of all the people he is meeting. He refuses baby food at all now and just wants to eat what we eat - he loves German food, lol. He is walking better and better and loves interacting with everybody. My cousins kids are here as well and Kian loves playing with everybody. We will travel on to France on Tuesday by train (7 hours) and I will try to update everybody when we get there and (hopefully!) get internet set up in our apartment. I will try and post some recent pics, too.

I got a nice new haircut - I will try and post pics.

I miss you all - I will try to be on more and hopefully show some pics.

xoxoxoxo

Re: Mama and Baby's first year and beyond!

Post  mscherry42 on Sun Jun 28, 2009 8:31 am

I'm a bit clueless to the separation anxiety. Jayden loves to explore and be independent. But, when she gets in her moment of needing some love, she prefers me, but most of the time will go to just about anyone in the house. I've even seen her go to some people who are considered strangers to her, but that I know.

Skylar,
I'm glad you made it safely. Sorry Kian had motion sickness. Enjoy yourselves. I can't wait to see pics of the trip and your new haircut.

Jayden may have a nice appetite, but she is not big at all. I weighed her on our scale the other day, and she's only 24lbs. The last time we were at the doctor she was 32 inches tall. So, she'll just be like Jadah most likely, except taller. very slender, slightly muscular, but a few inches taller than Jadah.

I think Jayden might either a)be sick b)teething c)driving the entire house insane. She walks around whining and crying off and on all day everyday. Yesterday evening she started up again, and after like an hour of it, I put her down for the night. Yeah, right, she woke up at 8:30. And stayed up crying until 9:40. I rubbed orajel on every little possible bump in her mouth. I had her quiet last night, but had to go and take a shower to get ready for bed. She cried the entire time DF had her while I showered. Then I sat with her and let her cry. I put on some music to shut her up since she likes music(Day 26(r&b/hip hop)). This helped. Then I went to pbs kids on the internet and found some supermarket game and sat there and played it while she watched. I was so tired. Finally, she was soothed enough for me to take her to her bed to go to sleep. Needless to say, I am a little bit more tired than I would normally be this morning. My bedtime is 9 when I have to get up at 4:30. But, it's okay. I just hope this weekend was the worst of it. I also think she's getting diaper rash from all the pooping she's been doing(about 7 or 8 a day). Her nose has been running a bit too, and she coughed a bit too. So, hopefully she's teething and won't need to go to the doctor.

Her vocabulary is getting better, although she's still not talking fluently yet. Oh, and I think it's time to start potty training seriously now. Yesterday I took the girls to the library. Well, Jayden wanted to carry her diaper bag around. She pooped on herself, so opened her diaper bag, took out a diaper, and was trying to lie down on it to change herself. I was trying to help Jadah check out her book she picked so didn't see Jayden at first. I was like Jayden are you stink. She scrunched up her nose and said stink. So, now I need to get in the habit and routine of going on her pot so that she can start being aware of it BEFORE she goes.

She also HATES water. What are you ladies doing for your kids' water intake? I've started cutting her juice with water, but I have to be careful cause sometimes she can tell the difference and she throws the cup cause she knows what I did.

Enjoy the rest of your weekends.

Re: Mama and Baby's first year and beyond!

Post  chrisb on Mon Jun 29, 2009 12:08 am

loulou, I guess I never really thought about emy having seperation anxiety. She constanty yells mommy all day. If she can't see me, if I'm too far away, if I turn my head, if someone else is holding her, you get the picture. I pretty much ignore most of it, and tell her if she wants something to use words, ha, apparently I've gone insane. I an with her99% of the time, so I think she gets her fill of me. So yeah I'm no help.

mscherry- I hope jayden feels better. It has to be teeth, i hope. That sounds like alot of diaper changes.

It amazes me how smart she is becoming and how much she understands. Shecan follow directions now pretty well, she helps put things away in the right place. I've always talked to her like a person and held one sided conversations, and suddenly she is responding and showing me she understands or does exactly what I say. For instance she spilled her water and I said "now mommy is going to have to clean it up" emy disappeared and came back with a dish towel(they are in a cabinet) and started wiping it up. I had no idea she understood me let alone knew what to do. I swear shes just getting so old. I've contemplated stopping nursing because now when I say"ok time to switch sides" she does it on her own, which is a bit weird to me. At the same time itstheonly time she still seemslike my baby still Cry .

Post  skyllar on Mon Jun 29, 2009 6:07 am

So, I finally had some time to read up on everybody and respond personally.

DM -- I also put vaseline (or good old Nivea) under Kian's nose so that it doesn't get too crusty.

Ginny -- I so hear you on the weight gain. Kian also is NOT on the weight charts, he is still just under 18 pounds and has been since his 12 months appointment. He eats a lot of different foods and is really not a picky eater, but he eats small quantities. He doesn't drink juice, just breast milk and water. I am also worried about his weight gain -- and the constant comments by people "you need to feed him more" are starting to get really annoying.

Chris -- So sorry to read that Emy doesn't like her swimming lessons. Maybe she'll learn to like them after all... Wow, Emy is really smart - that is so great that she understands so much.

Lou Lou -- Sorry to hear that Owen wasn't feeling well and that he had a hard time with his naps. Hopefully he is feeling better now.

mscherry --Sorry to hear that Jayden is also not feeling well. I hope she'll be better soon.

Kian is teething and just feeling miserable. Cry He has a runny nose, cough, can't sleep, doesn't like to eat and is just cranky and whiney. Hopefully he'll feel better tomorrow since we will be leaving for France tomorrow noon.

Skyllar, thanks for letting us know that you arrived in Germany alright. Sorry Kian wouldn't sleep for most of the trip, to be honest, i don't think Audrey would sleep on a plane either...Sorry to hear Kian is teething, I think Audrey is also trying to cut her last 4 teeth for the next little while. She's been a different character all weekend long. Hope they get thru it soon!!
