Why am I the only one with the devil child?lol! Mia will brush for two seconds on her own and if I try and get in there she just shuts her mouth as tight as possible. I might try the couch idea, thanks.

Wow, somehow I got busy and I miss ONE page of posts, lol.

Chris -- That's a great idea with the play kitchen to distract her.

mscherry -- First of all, Happy belated birthday to Jayden (wow, 2 years old). I saw the pics and it looked like you guys had a great time. I do a lot of the things you mentioned with Kian, too. Like Kian LOVES playing with pots and pans (pretends to cook), and that gives me some time. Or in the garden he helps hunting dandelions. Glad you found that better babysitter for your little one.

Lou Lou -- Those were some great ideas for keeping the little ones busy. Yep, it is definitely worth it when it allows putting mascara on BOTH eyes, lol.

robyn -- I am sorry you have a hard time getting anything done with Mia. Hopefully you'll find something she will like to do even if just for a little bit. But yeah, in the bathroom, Kian just empties the bathroom cabinet and yes, Lou Lou, tampons and panty liners are great toys, lol. With the teeth brushing we have Kian do it when we brush and he does it himself for quite a while and then we sit him on a big chair and brush his teeth. He doesn't mind it.

Gutter -- glad to hear from you. Sounds like Jasper is sleeping better and crying less. Yay!!

Not much new from our end. Kian is saying more and more words every day. I am so amazed, he seems to be picking up several new words a day. He says "cat, cup, table, car, tractor, nose, corn, kiwi, banana, more, bear, egg, and mommy and daddy (but all of it in German). The only English word at this point is "bye". So very very cute! He does fine brushing his teeth and we have him help with a lot of things in the garden, in the kitchen, cleaning up etc. He just loves to be involved. So funny: yesterday I walked into the living room and Kian was sitiing on the coffee table playing with his pots and pans. lol

Sometimes I have to sit on Audrey to let me brush her teeth (not all my weight, but to hold her down so she doesn't roll around), but not very often. She's doing much better these days now that her canines have cut thru!!! I've never really had that many problems brushing her teeth, she loves doing it herself, but then I have to take over to make sure she's got them all.

Post  dolly's momma on Sat Oct 17, 2009 12:34 pm

Lucy met her cousin who is 2 months younger last night. It was so cute, she ran over to Makena and gave her such big hugs the two of them lost their balance and fell over after a couple. LOL. Makena was a little overwhelmed by 20 some people cramped into a little house and didn't know what to think of Lucy lol. We will see them again tonight, they are getting a room at our hotel for the night so hopefully the little girls will get some time to play where it is quieter. Hannah, the cousin 6 months younger wasn't there because she has the flu. They are taking her to the urgent care today.

We went swimming in the hotel pool last night. It was too cold and poor Lucy was shivering so she and I came back to the room and swam in the jaccuzi tub. We were both warm and happier lol.

Jayden is sick. She woke up yesterday with a 101 fever. Part of me thinks she's teething since she keeps putting her whole hand in her mouth and she's been drooling kind of bad, but I don't feel any lumps back there. She was doing okay with the fever, playing and being her normal self, but today she's been super whiny and crying. The highest her fever has been is 102.4. But, she also has leaky eyes and slightly runny nose.

Dolly's momma -- Glad you guys are having a good time. The jacuzzi swim sounds fantastic - especially sine it is sooo cold here right now (freezing over night, WTH?). That is so great that Lucy got to interact with her cousin. Hopefully she won't get the flu that the other cousin has.

mscherry -- I am so sorry to hear that Jayden is sick! I hope she will get better soon - and hoping she didn't get the flu.

Kian had a lead test done for our pediatrician and he is a 4 (level 1, but 4 was his value). She said she usually sees kids in our area with lead values between 0-2. So I was freaking out wondering where he could get that lead from. Maybe the paint in our house (will have our landlords have it checked), or maybe still residual from our old place (we were tested for lead there and they found lead in the paint). Toys are also a good source of lead, but Kian has very few toys, mainly wood toys that we know are lead free. I try not to buy plastic toys made in China. So maybe he is getting it through me since I am still nursing. Anyways, we will try and eliminate lead sources and then he will get retested in a couple of months and the number should be lower.

Hi Ladies. Sorry I've been so terrible about posting in this particular thread.

Skyllar- Sorry to hear you are worried about Kian's lead levels. I'm sure things will be fine in a few months. Kian is also saying so many words!

Dollys Momma- Hope you are having a fun vacation! That is so cute about you and Lucy in the jacuzzi tub. I love those things!

Robyn- My Aunt had a great idea for me. To create buckets of toys/activities that your baby only gets to play with on certain days of the week. Keep them in a closet and label them with each day of the week, and only get them down on those days. OR to set aside special toys for the time that you are trying to get things done. My daughter seems to act up the worst when I am on the phone, so we now have "phone toys", which are toys I only give to her when I need to make a phone call.

Gutter- I'm glad to hear that Audrey's canines have finally cut through, that's awesome. Also, so great that Jasper isn't crying as much, and that he is sleeping through the night.

Chrisb- Emy is so cute, I love that video of her tap dancing that you put on FB.

MsCherry- I hope Jayden gets better soon! She could be putting her hand in her mouth because she has a sore throat.

LM is still just making a lot of sounds, and attempting the first syllable of new words. She says: "Ma Ma, Da Da, Ball, Duck, Co (corn) coe! (pocoyo), Cool (glasses. She has sunglasses and we say cool when she puts them on, so she refers to them as cool), Ba ba (bottle) Bay Bay (baby), Ch (cheese) Ba (balloon), wa wa (water), Da (diaper), moe (more), na na, (night night, ca (car) and Sh (shoe). She runs everywhere and climbs on EVERYTHING, and uses her princess car and activity table as a step stool to get whatever she wants. I have to make sure the counters are clear of anything dangerous to her, because she gets into EVERYTHING now. She is my tornado! She gives kisses out of the blue now, which is very sweet. She is getting a bit more snuggley, but not too much. She still doesn't have much time for cuddles. Her two front teeth on the top are a bit buck because of her pacifier, but I don't mind. She is sleeping from 7 pm-7 am now which is great. DH has been watching her since my surgery and he did what I was too much of a wuss to do, and ignored her when she woke up in the night, and for 4 days in a row, she's been sleeping through the night with no waking.

We are having a terrible time finding a rental home. Our apartment lease is up on November 20th, so a month from now. I have found a home we really love, but the owners won't let us sign the contract unless we pay them half a months rent to take the home off the market early. Most landlords I am talking to are not willing to give you more than 2 weeks to move in without requiring you to pay extra money. It's so dumb. So I am stressing, hoping that the house we love will still be available in a few weeks. DH has some major job interviews with some Universities so fingers crossed that they work out, so he doesn't have to sell cars anymore, he hates it. He's sick of being told he is OVER qualified for jobs in his field.

Skyllar-I hope Kian's lead levels come back fine next time.

Tiff-I hadn't thought about the possibility of a sore throat. Would that also explain the fever though?

Everyone else,
Take care of your little cute babies/kids.

Mscherry it could be the cause of the fever. She could have a bacterial infection in her throat or something which is causing the fever. Might wanna take her in to get swabbed!

Update-My sister just emailed me and told me that Jayden's temperature is 97.2. I am so relieved. If she still had fever by tomorrow, I or DF would have had to call in b/c we all know child + fever = NO DAYCARE!! I have her still checking it every couple hours to make sure though.

Tiff -- Glad to hear that LM is doing well. She sounds like so much fun!! Sounds like she has a lot of words.
How are you doing after your surgery? I hope finally better. No fun at all. Hopefully in the long run it will be a good thing. Really hoping that you'll find a rental home.

mscherry -- Glad that Jayden's fever is down. Hopefully it'll stay down so she can go to daycare tomorrow.

Sky- I hope you figure out what is causing elevated lead levels. I wonder about the nursing thing and getting it through you, but are adults levels higher? Can you get it from food or anything?

Tiff - I hope your feeling better these days. Seems like you have had terrible luck with your health the last year. Hopefully it is all resolved now although sometimes it works as a good excuse to get our DH to step up and do more work.ha

We were staying at my parents guest house the last few weeks while we redid our master bath, we are finally back home but we leave again sunday for a 7 day cruise.Emy has been sick the last week and I am taking her in to the doc today. She has been acting totally normal til last night. She wouldn't go to bed, wouldn't go w my DH just screamed bloody murder for me. This went on for hours. I swear if she isn't sick sick then she will never eat a chocolate chip cookie again. Everytime someone gives her anything with a little chocolate she goes nuts. I have now started having to floss her teeth because her front ones are so close together, most of the time she likes it cause i makea squeeky noise when I do it, so maybe you could try thatif your having trouble brushing.

Emy wants to read books all day long. If I tell her just one she goes and gets the longest one she can find. Do you know how long cat and the hat type books actually are??? My favorite thing she is doing now is following directions on tv shows and music cds. I will look up and there she is wiggling or tapping or clapping or whatever it issaying to do. Its a great distraction too because when she getsbad I turn one of thethings on and its like time stops and she has no control and must do what it says, haha. Come to think of it I might put a video of it on FB.

Hi all,
Sorry been away for a while.
Hope Emy gets better Chris. She sounds like a clever little cookie at the moment! Thanks for the brushing tip, I'll try that one.
Princess thanks for the tip too with the toys. I have tried that one but she doesn't have an interest in toys unless someone is playing with her. I tried again yesterday to get ready for work and it was a disaster, ended up driving her to creche trying not to cry again. I really am at a loss. When we go out she is so good but at home she turns into the devil!
Hope all is well with everyone.

Grandma bought Lucy a pair of shoes that have a squeaker in them. No more stealth baby getting into mischief! lol. Lucy loves them. Yesterday when I was getting her dressed she went and got them for me to put on her. She does a little dance when she gets them on.

She is having fun with her 3 yr old boy cousin. You can go around and around from grandmas living room to kitchen, and Lucy thinks it is great to chase him.

She says mama, daddy, ba ba, dog (and after she says dog she makes panting noises), her brother's name, bye, please, ball, baaa, mooo, neigh, and when she gives you a kiss she says Mwah!

Hey Skyllar - I just read about a recall on some small cloth covered balls because they have high levels of lead in them.
It had never occurred to me that a SOFT toy could have lead in it. Does Kian have anything like that? Just a thought.......

I've seen them at Walmart - they fit in an adult hand and are squishy.......
