More Money Stupidness!

Post  BethG on Wed Oct 07, 2009 10:26 am

Last night I was checking my bank account online and saw a check cleared for $10.00 but its check number was way out of sequence. I look it up in my Quicken and it's a check I wrote THREE YEARS AGO! Yep, September 25, 2006 but it never cleared so eventually I added it back into my balance.

So I called my bank today and they said they would put a stop payment on it at no charge. I'm surprised both banks even accepted it -- it's three years old!

The check was written to a singer/songwriter in Georgia for his CD. I got the CD. He never cashed the check. Ten dollars is not a big deal and I did legitimately write the check, but I can't be sure the signature on the back of the check is even his so I don't feel bad about stopping payment.

Oh my, Beth. That is so funny that the banks still accepted that check. How weird! I wouldn't feel bad, Beth, cause after that long time I though checks wouldn't be accepted any more anyways. Plus, it was a check of $10. I would have done the same thing!

I've never heard of someone cashing a check from 3 years ago. That is so random. Maybe he found it in a sock drawer or something! LOL. I would have stopped it too, you just never know!
