2nd BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS Empty 2nd BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS

Post  Georgi Wed Mar 03, 2010 12:42 pm

We've got a lot of 2nd birthdays coming up and I just wondered whether any of you had already thought about what you are gunna do? Theme's etc....

I know that I would like to make Theo a birthday cake again and this is almost dictating the theme which is in itself causing me grief...I am thinking of making a train cake, not that trains are his favourite thing, he loves anything with wheels. It's REALLY hard to try and pin-point what his favourite TV show is!

We aren't going to have a massive party like his 1st I would much prefer just to have a selective few.

and you............................??

We are having a more low key party too due to me having a newborn. But its pretty orgnanised as i am trying to super orgnanise myself before bubs comes so Kyrah doesnt miss out lol we have done our easter crafts for her friends already and her birthday invites ( she painted them) We even have our Mothers day crafts/pressie ideas lol

We are having a "bring your bike or scooter to the Park Party" we are buying her a scooter for birthday and going to a huge park, with a big playground, bike tracks, duck ponds etc and going to have a sausage sizzle etc. We have SOOO many kids in our group of friends i think it will make my life easier than cleaning up at home or something.

I am going to make her elmo and cookie monster cupcakes ( i think at this stage) for her birthday party day and her actual birthday, which is the day before, we will have the family over that evening, but dont know what cake i will do yet.
Cant wait.

i have also bought her a little play make up/dressing table that has a mirror and lights and music, she is going to love it. She has already seen the box in the cupboard and says, mummy want this. lol then going to get her a 3 wheel scooter and have a littel cooking set and apron and her two fav books.
cant believe she is goign to be two!!!

I'm having a hard time deciding too! I think I will probably do something with Elmo or cars/trucks as the theme. Right after valentine's day I went to the store and was able to get some treat bags that are red, blue, yellow, white and green striped and they would work with the Elmo stuff for sure. I got 24 bags for less than $2!!!!!
Last year we had his party at a large state park on the water and it was nice but hot. We have thought about having his party at the zoo, the same park or a splash pad park.
It's hard for us to keep it low key because my DH and I each have 4 siblings and our parents and then we have 8 nieces and nephews under the age of 8!!!!
I wont dare attempt to make his cake!!!! I am NOT good in the kitchen! Last year I paid a ridiculous amount of money for his cake (and it WAS fabulous) but I will probably go to our local grocery store this year!!!!
We are getting Owen a swimming pool and a water/sand table as his two big gifts and I'm sure I'll pick some other things as well. He is really in to cars and trucks (he calls them all tractors but it sounds like "tracteeeee") and balls!!!!! He loves books and legos too! Such a fun age!
Sparkles - I can't believe how organized you are!!!! That's impressive!
Georgi - My SIL did a train cake a few years ago and it was AWESOME! She made mulitiple cakes to make the individual cars and used oreo cookies as the wheels. It even had a caboose!!!!!

What a great thread! I cannot believe that Kian will turn 2 in 6 weeks. I have not decided on a theme for the party yet, but maybe I will take him along when I try to pick something out (possibly cars or trucks as he is really into that; he doesn't really know TV characters besides Bob the Builder cause we have that in German, lol). It will be a small party with his friends. Our parents all live way to far away for birthday parties. We will have maybe 4-5 kids and their parent(s). Since we live half a block from the park (huge playground) we will probably go there and then play at home (might not be that warm here mid-April). I am probably going to bake cupcakes for the kids and something else (German most likely) for the adults. From us, Kian is getting a tricycle for his birthday.

Sparkles -- I love the idea about the party with the bike etc. So cool (might have to think about something like that - since we are getting him a tricycle).

So all our boys love trucks and cars Smile/happy I have seen a Wilton cake tin in the shape of a car but the reason why I liked the train idea was because I could put different sweets in each carriage....however, we took the liberty of asking Master Bliha what type of cake he would like and he said a clear NO to a car cake and train cake but when Daddy mentioned a Lion cake he smiled and said YAY!!! he might change his mind in a couple of weeks though LOL!!

I have been thinking it might be a cool idea to hire one of the 'party' rooms out at the soft play center in town, there is free parking outside and the kids can run around and do what they like whilst us adults can chat over a cup of tea at least this way our house doesn't get wrecked!!! Need to find out how much it would cost and probably get invites out end of March as it seems everyone needs tons of notice these days for anything!!

I suppose....just thinking outloud if Theo did have a lion cake I could make the theme a jungle theme!!!!

Love the idea of a Lion Cake!!!! How fun!!!!

I had thought about renting a room at a place called Pump It Up. It's a big room with the big blowup bouncers and they have a huge slide and a party room. It's pricey though and I would still have to do some food. I think we will probably stick with a local park. I just want it to be really special. You only turn two once!!!! Lol!

And what IS the fascination with cars and trucks?! Owen can never have enough cars/trucks! He isn't even two and probably has over 100!!!! He has favorite's too and he lines them up and makes big "roads" out of them.

I am loving this little boy stuff!!!!!!!

Isn't it so cute that they can actually have a say on their birthday cake I am amazed everyday just how much Theo understands.I think the 'Jungle' theme party is looking promising and I am now looking at ideas for the cake....I could make a round cake which is a lion's head or make a lion to sit on top of a cake....decisions - decisions lol!!!

Lou Lou - Theo has loads of cars and trucks too, he calls them all cars though whether it's a lorry, bus or car!! He can play happily for ages with them and lining them all up too!!!

Post  chrisb Mon Mar 08, 2010 8:01 pm

Emys bday is thursday and we are just doing a family dinner and ice cream cake that night. We tried to let her pick dinner by telling her she could have anything she wanted. Bad choice of words on my part because she wanted popsicles. I told her it had to be dinner food and she replied, "you said ANYTHING!!". My child is such a smartass. I then told her it had to be dinner food to eat, her response, " you eat popsicles?" I swear as she gets smarter my pregnancy brain is making me more dumb.

We are doing a small birthday party with my friends kids on Saturday. So it will only be 8 kids bur they range up to age 8. We are doing a princess theme. Lunch for everyone and I got a neat little art project for them. I got like gold paper crowns to decorate with jewels and glitter pens. I am just doing princess cupcakes for that. So all in all its pretty relaxed.

Sparkles, that is so neat of you to post pictures for me - thank you!!! They look a bit hard for my minimum cake baking skills though....although saying that the lion cupcakes look awesome and I could definately manage that!!

Chrisb- you say 'only' 8 kids to me that is loads!!! for every child you usually get 1 or 2 adults therefore that's what a possible 24!! shock Yikes!!!! I am splitting friends and family this year it was just all too much last year I did keep control but I felt as though I was constantly making/fetching drinks, I wish my relatives were more hand on and helped themselves!! So Emy is the FIRST of the original due date group of gals to turn 2!!!! Wowzer.....time has just flown by! She sounds very advance!! Smile/happy

Well we decided to just go ahead and book the softplay centre for Theo's birthday party, it will be on the 8th (day before his official bday) £8.00 per child includes; entrance fee for 2 hours play, food & drinks, party hat and bag and a decorated room where we will be eating. I just have to worry about the invitations, cake and possibly somemore animal themed balloons/decorations to ensure the room has a 'jungle' feel about it! I feel relieved that it is booked and we got the day we wanted.

We will then have a 'special' afternoon tea (quite literally tea, cakes and sandwiches) on the Sunday afternoon with grandparents and close relatives.

So lucky boy he gets 2 celebrations!!!! Smile/happy
