Middle names for Samuel

Post  MommaBear on Sun Mar 07, 2010 5:57 am

Ok so we have a little girl name nailed down and someday I will have a little Evelyn Ann running around the house. But we are stuck with our boy name. I think DH and I have settled on Samuel for a first name. Now we need a middle. Our last name has two syllables and seems to go with everything (Richards). I have my choice for a middle and I think DH is on board but I hesitate to use it because hubby is a III and everyone wants him to name his son as a IV. (It was a huge discussion and probably a bit of a disappointment to them that we didn't name Isaac that way.) The middle name we have both thought of and like is DH's current middle name and would mean no IV unless we had two children with the same middle name. So I need back up middle names and the only one that sounds right in my head is the taboo one.

Suggestions?

OK I know this is a poor joke. But my immediate thought (as we've been focussing on Elle) when I saw the thread with samuel in it,was to say 'oh if they get together it'll be smuel -elle- jackson Tongue " Ok,I know I'm silly. Sorry! Had to get it out.

Anyway,seriuosly.So my thoughts are (love Sam/samuel BTW it's my cousins name) oh,are you going to ever call him Sam ? Or is it Strictly Samuel? I have thought of some for both anyway Smile/happy Here goes;

Samuel Markus
Samuel Liam
Samuel Mark
Samuel benjamin
Samuel james
Sam Christopher
Samuel Brenden
Samuel Robert

I am not sure why I am drawn to more 'simple' names to go with Samuel...what are your feelings?Sorry if I wasnt much help or very orriginal

Georgi - I love the name Evelyn but I fear that I will never get mine.

Angel that is funny and I didn't even think of that.....lol. As for what we seem to be drawn to I would say older underused simple names is our thing. And I also think that people will always shorten names if there is that possibility so if the name is Samuel it could end up anything from Sammi to Sam and any other variation people can think of.

Great names so far keep them coming. Georgi you actually included "the name." Samuel Anthony is the taboo name and DH is all for using it but I don't want to have a guilty conscious or hear that I didn't name my son blank for the rest of my life. DH liked Samuel Grayson. He said it sounded like a lawyers name.

I like the Samuel James too.

Samuel Heath
Samuel Chase
Samuel Eli

I think short middle names sound good with Samuel and Richards.

I thought of Samuel Eli but I have two friends who have sons right around Isaac's age who named their kids Elijah or Eli for short.

granted, but if it's his middle name it's not going to be heard all the time in general context is it? Like if you're with said friends and you call him Samuel Eli or Samuel Elija ,it's distinct enough to be just him and not have him mixed up with anything else. Have you had any more ideas? Do you feel any closer to making a choice? I think this was one of my most favourite and most dreaded parts of having a baby!LOL

Re: Middle names for Samuel

Well Isaac has my father's middle name and I really like that there is that tie even if it isn't blatant. And if I were to continue with that pattern and give the next (if he is a boy) dh's father's middle name (as well as dh's) it would be Anthony and I am growing so attached to it. DH doesn't seem to have a problem using it in fact is ready to go with it (he currently isn't even talking to them). But it is more me being a wimp and not wanting to hear the ILs. So I am going to wait and see how I feel when I see the baby. I guess I just want to have options and you girls have definitely given me lots of those.
