Please light a candle and pray....
I am asking you all if you have the time, to please light a candle and pray for the 29 miners who are trapped undergroud at the pike mine just out of Greymouth. This mine is only an hour away from me and i know 2 of the miners who are trapped. Everyone i know knows or is connected to someone in there.
An explosion happened on friday at around 4pm and there has been no contact from them since. As it is a coal mine the levels of gasses in there are most likely deadly but there is fresh air circulating through the vents. Until we know otherwise all we can do is hope and pray that these men who range in age from 17 to 62 can walk out of there and be returned to the ones they love who will be waiting.
No one has been able to go in the mine as the levels of gasses are still to high but a lowering, a robot has been sent in with a camera to see what the situation inside is like. No one knows if the explosion caused a massive fireball throughout all the tunnels (which we think did happen) or if there has been a collapse trapping them, until there is a visual we just dont know. we are now coming into the 5th day and the amount of support this small town has got from all over the world has been overwhelming, really touching.
I am asking you as my frinds and second family to please light a candle for these guys and pray even if you are not religous, please pray for a safe return. some of these guys have babies on the way and one man is suppose to be getting married in less than 3 weeks.
We need all the hope and preyers we can get, to have these guys walk out of the mine, hang there tags up and clock out, put there helmets on the hook and to go home with their famies where they belong, to get them out of that dark, cold and dirty hole.
I know it will be a miracle if these guys come out alive, and we know the chances of that dont look good but until they confirm it please help by giving up a miute of your time. I would never normally "preach" or ask something like this, but these people are part of my community and as i said i know some of them personally and my family know most of them. the westcoast of nz has a population of about 15 thousand max all up so its just a little place.
Thankyou so much to all of you and heres hoping for a positive outcome and a miracle and hopefully make christmas something to celebrate this year!
sending love to all of you xoxoxox

Re: Please light a candle and pray....
Thanks chick.
There is no more to really update at this stage, all i can say is that they are taking their bloody time with the rescue, its getting so frustrating. It showed the blast on the news lastnight. There is a camera at the oppening of the mine which runs continuosly to monitor who comes in and out of the mine, it showed when the blast happened and shows that it lasted for around 50sec which is a bloody long time, now the explosion happened deep in the mine so for it to be seen on the camera it had to of travveled around 2km which is a long way. A robot is in there but they have not released any info on that. a camera was taken down the ventilation shaft into a space where if there wasa fire miners were to go as it had fresh oxygen but they have said that no one was in there and doesnt look like anyone has been in there since the blast. So its getting bleaker and bleaker. But until its confirmed that these miners are dead or alive we still need to hope. thats all we can do

Re: Please light a candle and pray....
It is with great saddness that i write this, I am crying as it was confirmed half an hour ago that all 29 men who have been trapped in the Pike River mine since friday have lost their lives after a second explosion this afternoon that no body could have possibly survived. My heart breaks to all the family that have lost these men.
We will keep the candles burning bright to help lead the rescue team and get these boys home to their final resting place.
Very sad day xxx

Re: Please light a candle and pray....
Well just a little update. There was a 3rd explosion at the mine today The rescue teams have still been unable to go into the mine and get the 29 miners out. It has been a week today since the 1st explosion. A big machine has arrived from australia to pump steam into in and somehow help with bringing the methane and other toxic gasses down so there is no risk of another explosion. We have been burning a candle every night, donations are pouring in to help these familes from all over the world. Heres hoping they can get in soon and bring these boys home.
The ceo of the mine, peter whittall has been amazing!
