quit smoking??
have any of you on here ever managed to quit smoking (if you ever did lol)??? i was just wondering if you did it cold turkey, or with quitting aids, or the help of your MD? anything else? did you cut back first? i would really like to try and quit sometimes soon (esp. if we are going to
#2 anytime soon) but im so afraid of that feeling of failure when it doesnt work. ive dealt with that so many times. the worst was when i started back up when i was pregnant and i felt like the worst mother, even though i wasnt really even a mother yet! im just glad kaydie doesnt have any problems, or i would have wanted to die!
does anyone have any advise? i havent set a date yet, but i may do that soon.
oh, and FYI, if i do try and quit soon, i will prolly be on here annoying all of you, all day long!!!!! just a warning

Re: quit smoking??
Here Nika, you might find this quiz useful
Just found it
It matches your current smoking habits with the right quitting method
http://www.cancer.org/docroot/PED/content/PED_10_13x_Smoking_Habits_Quiz.asp
I have never put a ciggy to my lips, so I personally have no idea how hard it would be to stop, but I have supported friends through quitting, so I am here for you:)
My friend hasn't smoked in 11 years, but still craves Cloves.

Re: quit smoking??
wow thanks tiff, thats a cool site!!!! a little afraid of my result though!!!
This is what the site told me:
You are highly addicted to nicotine and should talk with a doctor or cessation expert about using one or more stop-smoking medicines, which are proven to double your chances of success. Nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) comes in different products to fit your pattern of cravings. Zyban also works to curb cravings and is available by prescription.
Social support from family, friends, cessation groups, or a telephone stop smoking counseling line will be very important, too. You can prepare for withdrawal and temptations with the ACS pocket-size handbook, Kicking Butts. It has checklists to help identify and break common smoking patterns. Guidance is also available online in our Complete Guide to Quitting Smoking, and ACS call specialists at 1-800-ACS-2345 can help you find a telephone quitline or support group in your area.
i might make an appt with my MD to see if she can help!

Re: quit smoking??
thanks tiff!
i am going to be giving her a call. i will have to see what she says though because the new quit smoking aid medicine is around $130 a month on my insurance and they recommend you take it for at least 3 months, so i dont know if i can afford it, because you take it while you smoke for a while and i can hardly afford the cigarettes!!!

Re: quit smoking??
Nika I smoke  I know, I know, it's really bad when ttc!
I did quit In October 2006 for 9 months using patches and I can't recommend them enough, seriously they were great! The only reason I started again was due to all the stress of ttc! I plan on quitting again soon and will defo be using them again!

Re: quit smoking??
Nika, I just saw this. But I'm totally recommending Chantix to you! Especially if your insurance will cover part of it. It ended up costing us only $40/month for DH's meds. And he does smokeless tobacco, but its the same thing, you quit the same way. And you dont smoke the whole time. You start the pills while smoking and set a quit date 10 days away. You smoke and take the pills for the 10 days and on your quit date you don't smoke. And that's it...you continue the pills for a minimum of 3 months w/out smoking. DH has gone nearly two weeks now snuff-free and the medicine right now is costing us the same as his snuff was costing us per month so we're breaking even. PLUS, when he's done w/the meds, we'll be saving $40-$50/month! I know you want to quit and I totally support that! I can't stand to be around smokers (no offense) and won't even let K be around people who smoke, including my mom. I hated always smelling like smoke after being at her house and just the way she always smells. I really wish she would quit, but she wont so for now, K is not allowed in her house and I wont even let my mom hold her for really long periods of time or be in her car b/c the chemicals are still in her clothes and hair and stuff
I dont think you're a bad person for smoking, everyone has their habits. But I do think it would be one of the BEST things you could do for Kaydance! She will totally love you for being a smoke-free mom when she's older

Re: quit smoking??
well, i may have to go get the Chantix, i know my Dr. would give it to me. i am going to try to quit once without it, just to save the money (we are SO broke) but im not going to get upset with myself if it doesnt happen. and then i will just tell DF hes going to need to share his allowance for the meds! haha. anyways, im gonna go cold turkey tomorrow (and i know i should have a positive attitude, but i dont see it happening, although i am going to try really hard). we will see what happens!!!
oh and just so yall know, if i do manage to quit even if its only for part of the day, dont take any offense to me being a bitch! lol, i appologize in advance

Re: quit smoking??
Nika, maybe you should stay off the forums for the day if you're going to be mean!
lol!
Does your DF smoke too? The doctor told DH that it's never easy but your chances of quitting DOUBLE when someone quits WITH you. You know, if DF smokes, it's going to be hard for you NOT to. Just an idea!

Re: quit smoking??
You could try cutting down to two a day, then one? You can do this! Especially if you only smole 3 a day. I was thinking you would be smoking 20+ a day with that quiz result.
One person I know said when they quit, they didn't tell friends/family and just quit cold turkey. She felt no pressure that way.
