I Think I''m Traumatized....
I can't stop thinking about this...
Had to call 911 this morning for the first time ever... DF was there, but he ran to make sure she was okay.
I witnessed an older lady roll her vehicle over (Hyundai same as my car), she was the car in front of me and I saw her drive on the gravel shoulder, then I guess she panicked, jerked her car to the left and that's when she lost control and her car swung to the right side of the road, nailed the guard rail. She then kept driving threw an intersection (very close to hitting a motorcycle, he apparently saw dust and stayed behind) hit a stop sign and flew into the ditch and rolled over 1 full turn and landed on her tires. Her drivers door was completely gone and her airbag did not come out. She only had cuts and scratches.
Thankfully there was an offduty paramedic that arrived and an offduty police officer. This happened 10 minutes north of the city on a highway. We were driving 100 km/h and I was just keeping up, because I had a transport on my ass (he witnessed it too and stopped, very nice guy).
Anyways I think I would of had more closure if I would of witnessed it with the police officer, but I had DF go because honestly it was all a blur at that time, but while he was talking to the officer, my mind replayed it clear as day
The reason this all happened, wasn't because of the speed she was driving, it was because she was trying to kill a stupid darn spider at that speed and lost control of her vehicle. When we left she was alright, she was really lucky!!!
I really needed to type this up and hopefully get over it...

OMG Gutter! What a horrible accident to have witnessed! Thank god she was okay but how silly of her to try and kill a spider while travelling at speed!
Re: I Think I'm Traumatized....
Gutter, your experience sounds very scary indeed. Even as someone who deals with emergencies on a day to day basis, it never stops getting your adrenaline going and even though you seem so in control, it is scary every time and at the end of it you shake and cry and can't help but think you could have done more. What I'm saying is that it's totally normal for you to feel this was and if you didn't, then you wouldn't be human. You just need to talk it through and get things off your chest! Hugs to you sweetheart!

oh hunny, this must have been so awful to watch ,but at least the lady didn't like die in front of you or anything. So glad she's ok and that you could help. You can sleep soundly knowing that I think if you feel a bit shaken it's totally normal and you will feel a lot better in a couple of days! hugs xxxx
Re: I Think I'm Traumatized....
Thanks Holi!
I had a good nights sleep last night, so i figure my brain is doing just fine, but still felt like something out of a movie, so maybe it's making my mind work overtime trying to figure out if it was real or not. DF said that we should think about her being alive, because she was sooo lucky it was a bad accident.

Accidents are horrible things to shake off!! I am sorry you had to see that. Emotions run so high when you see things like that, especially when you are preggo! Try to do something fun to take your mind off of it!!!
The reason I am not an EMT anymore is because I just can't stand seeing accidents like that, it was totally traumatizing me!

OMG, Gutter. That is sooo scary. Witnessing accidents is sooo freaky. It's hard to forget - even years later. When I was about 17, a couple of friends and I were driving and our car rolled over (just on a local road, we weren't going very fast) and it rolled and landed on its roof. We all got out fine and were unharmed (a little whiplash, but nothing more) and I was freaked out the night after and now still, I am not too comfortable in cars when I am not driving. That is so scray, but glad the woman wasn't insured seriously.

Re: I Think I'm Traumatized....
Hey gutter, I'm sorry that you had to see that. It's totally understandable to feel what you're feeling and find yourself dwelling on it, replaying it in your mind and that sort of thing. It happens with trauma on any scale. It will get better with time, but just feel what you need to feel in the meantime. You will be okay, but yes, seeing something like that WILL have an impact on you! (((hugs)))
I witnessed a rollover a few years back and felt much the same way you did, shaken up and dwelling on it for awhile after. I also felt really scared to drive for the first few days after. It does get better though!! (Plus I have experience working at a women's shelter with children and women who have experienced abuse and dealing with extreme trauma, plus a bit of personal history of my own, so I do understand a little about all this!)
