I'm having surgery
I was approved for a tonsillectomy (tonsil removal). Apparently it's a very painful procedure for adults. The surgery is this coming monday morning, October 5th. I am so scared, but also happy because for years I have been suffering with recurrent bouts of tonsillitis and strep throat. It's been so miserable, and every year I get strep at least 4 times. Not to mention I have been diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and every time I am given antibiotics for the tonsil infections, it tears up my stomach for months. It's just a never ending cycle of pain.
Do any of you know any adults who have gone through the procedure? How was it for them? How long were they in severe pain before things started to improve?

Re: I'm having surgery
Ask Leeaman. Her husband had his tonsils removed -- last year I think.
I wish I had had my tonsils removed when I was a kid too. I don't get strep throat, but they feel "yucky" frequently.
I hope everything goes ok and isn't too painful.

Hope it goes well. I think it may not be as bad as it used to be, with some of the new surgical techniques. My mom had hers out at 18, but that was a long long long time ago.

Re: I'm having surgery
Sorry, Tiff. I won't be of any help - I have no experience getting tonsils out, nor do I know anybody who had them out as an adult. I just wanted to say Good luck for the surgery on Monday! I am sure it will go great! Will be thinking of you.
