Agree, Disagree, No Opinion
I saw this article and wanted to share it and get your thoughts and opinions on it.

For me, I am more concerned with the amount of time she may or may not have with her child due to her age. That's something that would concern me as I got older. Also, health reasons, but for her, I think the usual health problems that the child could have are not an issue, since it's not her egg that's being used. I think overall, I'm okay with someone 66 giving birth, though, I'm not 100% sold. But, I think it's a personal weighing of adv and disad seeing as though the child's health issues aren't in the picture. I will say this though, she doesn't look 66. I wouldn't have put her past 60.
Kind of off topic, but what's the pound-dollar equivalency?

Re: Agree, Disagree, No Opinion
I didn't read the whole article but did see her story on TV last night. Kinda mixed feelings. I hate to deny anyone the priveledge of being a parent (in part because I had a doctor tell me that I would never get pregnant). But this woman seems to be healthy and financially able. She has hired a live-in nanny so at least she has a support system already in place. I feel that's very important. Also, she needs to take steps to provide for both her child and herself as she gets older...estate planning, guardianship (if needed), college planning, etc.
I would rather see this woman become a mother instead of that hideous Octo-Mom. I feel her doctors were morally and ethically in error in performing the proceedure on her.

Re: Agree, Disagree, No Opinion
I think it's unfair on the child, she may suddenly show old age and not be able to support the child. The sad thing is, the child WILL get picked on, and the mum probably won't be around for that long.
It's all over the news here, and I think it's wrong. I understand wanting a child, but there should be a cut off point for conceiving through IVF, and more focus on the older children up for adoption.

Re: Agree, Disagree, No Opinion
Not sure if I entirely agree with Toffee, but I see her points. But one thing I did think of and wanted to comment on: I believe this woman used donor eggs AND donor sperm? In a way, what's the point? Yeah, to go through pregnancy, but I believe the end result, a baby, is more important than the actual pregnancy. If this woman had money for this very expensive proceedure, I believe she could have adopted a baby. Then again, maybe she faced age discrimination there as well....Hmmmmm.

That is strange that she used donor eggs and sperm! I'd prefer to adopt at her age.

I think that every choice is personal. You never know what someone's mindset is until you've walked in their shoes. I'm not going to judge her... however... this is a pretty complicated situation. There is a huge chance that she might not live to see her child grow up.

Re: Agree, Disagree, No Opinion
well i know this will sound horrible and morbid, but from personal experience of a friend of mine, you don't have to be old to not see your child grow up. my friend was in her 30s, she called into work because she wasn't feeling right and she stayed at home with her 3 year old that morning. When no one had heard from her at 10 am they went to her house to hear the baby crying inside. My friend had died on her bed in front of her daughter, who was too little to understand why her mommy didn't wake up.
i know its sad, but there are no guarantees, bad things happen to good people sometimes. I don't really know what i think about this story, except I agree with tiff that its a VERY personal choice. who knows how long this lady has wanted a baby. And these days and times she can live to be 100! So, who knows? None of us do unfortunately.
I also see where Toffee is coming from for sure it seems very cruel to have your child and not be able to be around to raise him or her. it does sound like she has a good plan and a live in nanny who will actually be a mother figure and will probably become the mother after something happens to this lady.
I think that when its all said and done this baby will be happy and appreciative to his/her mother and be happy to be alive because of her. I agree with mscherry too, she doesn't look 66!! she is in shape for being 8 months for sure!
Its just a tough situation, but yes, Beth, thank goodness she isn't like OCTO mom *shudder* that woman is CRAZY!!!!
Very strange what science can do these days...
