i am pet sitting

my mothers dog, and lord do i feel bad for her!!! the poor girl, she is 15 years old, a german shepard/ lab mix. she has hip displyasia so its VERY difficult for her to get around, and i didnt realize how bat it was until she started staying with us last night. she is on daily meds to help her joints and pain, but i still feel bad. she limps now, and everyonce in a while, just falls down and has a lot of trouble getting back up. also, when she gets up for the day, it takes her 5-6 tries to get up off the floor. the poor girl. i dont think she has to much time left. oh and to top it all off, shes now completely deaf due to age as well!!! *sigh* i remember when we got her when i was about 8 years old. its sad to see her like this, but i am amazed she lived this long!! shes a trooper though!

Ok, Pepper's go a lot more white on her face, but still.....

Not the best photo but I hardly have any digitals of Gretchen since she died in 2003. This is from 2002, right before hubby and I went on our honeymoon.

Gretchen was also a shepherd/lab mix. Also had hip dysplasia. Also had a very hard time getting up later in life. Funny huh?

wow, its like they are sisters or cousins or something!!! lol, she was a pretty dog Smile/happy

but yeah, peppers got her beat on the gray LOL!

if you dont mind me asking what happened to her, did you end up having to put her down?

Gretchen had congestive heart failure which took a toll on her kidneys as well. Also, she got a degenerative nerve condition in her back legs which the vet said was fairly common for shepherds with hip dysplasia. At the end she couldn't walk at all. My hubby let her go on much too long. In November 2003 we finally had her put down and cremated. I have both her and Zoe's ashes.

You can't see it in the pic, but Gretchen even had the white/grayed out belly like peppers and also the feet.

Can you see why hubby was drawn to wild-child Morgan?

aww, poor thing. at least he did it humanly in the end, ya know? i talked to my mom about it before she left for her trip, just in case pepper went downhill fast while i had her (cause thats just my luck) and i was happy my mom told me that if something serious happened to have her euthanized so she wouldnt have to suffer anymore. shes still quite happy even though shes having so much trouble though, so i guess its not quite time yet, but i feel so bad for her watching her try to get up and failing 5-6 times or falling over and then never giving up, still trying to get right back on her feet.

hehe, morgan is awesome though, i know dogs can never ever be replaced, but i think she was a great addition to your famly Smile/happy

She had a rough time the last few months, but my husband couldn't make the decision to let her go. Took a lot of convincing. Once Gretchen was gone, he immediately transferred all his affection to my dog Zoe. She helped him a lot. But then losing Zoe was so tough because we just had the cat and he's...well...a cat!

24P, Peppers is 15 she's already outlived Gretchen by 2 years....hope she still has many months left of enjoyable living in her.

i know, i still cant believe shes lived this long, lol dont get me wrong, im very happy, but just amazed!!! shes a great dog though, and im glad shes getting to spend her golden years being pampered by my mom and living the good life lol. the only pet sitter she could find would only go over twice a day to feed/water/let outside, and that wasnt good enough so thats why my mom called me and asked if pepper could stay with us for a week! lol, shes having a good time at our house i think Smile/happy

Does she get along with your little dog (sorry can't remember his name) and Sparky?

I had a Doberman live to be 14 years old. That was pretty amazing too.

yes she does, she grew up with my dog angel that passed away last year until i moved out on my own, and then she was the lone dog at home with mom lol. but we mainly keep max and sparky away from her cause they try to play with her and she will try to play and hurt herself, so we limit their time together! but overall they like eachother!
