Re: Thane's Pablo cake
Ginny this is what I am thinking of making:
But I don't have a clue where to start, I have been looking on Ebay for cake tins in the shape of Mickey Mouse but they are so expensive and it seems rare to just get a cake tin of his face. I don't know how to do the kinda star thing either????

Re: Thane's Pablo cake
I must add I don't want the icing to be hard I would like it to stay soft like a buttercream icing!
Re: Thane's Pablo cake
Hey Georgi!!!
By the looks of this mickey cake...would you be making it for him or for everyone? Because it looks like you could use maybe a smaller cake tin and some cupcakes for ears... or something like that!! Or a bigger cake tin with a small cake tin for the ears, then arrange them to look like his face. Then you can just tint some icing (use Wilton's tint cuz it doesn't mess up the taste!) and do it that way.
As for the icing, for Thane's cake i cheated and bought an out of the box cake and icing, but for BLaine's it was all from scratch. if you don't want the icing to be too hard, maybe opt for the whipped icing or just regular canned icing instead of homemade, cuz sometimes icing can go either way! LOL
I have the cake decorating kit from pampered chef and that's what i use to make all my cakes, but you can actually buy frosting bags and the star shaped piping thing at Wal mart in the baking section.
When you are ready to bake it, I will be glad to help you!!!!!!!

Re: Thane's Pablo cake
I Love Thanes birthday cake!!!! Im sure he will love it!
Georgi, that mickey mouse cake is so cool! I would bake 2 smaller round cakes - ears, a rectangle cake for the top half of his head, then another round cake but you would have to cut it to shape and that would be the bottom of his face! Once its all iced no one can tell!
I alsways cheated, my MIL worked at a bakery so they use to make it and print a pic onto the icing somehow, not sure how but always looked great!

Re: Thane's Pablo cake
I was going to suggest one round cake pan for Mickey's face and 1 smaller one for the ears, fill them in with frosting and viola...Mickey Mouse.
Cool cakes!
