My 5 month old has a cold
So it's a pretty yucky one. She didn't sleep well last night, and isn't eating or drinking well. No fever, but icky nose with snot running down her throat lots of sneezes. I have been giving her infant tylenol (paracetamol) What do I need to watch for as far as it worsening???
Also, any ideas to help her get better faster? Any safe natural remedies she can take?
Thanx.

Re: My 5 month old has a cold
Hey Princess,
I would suggest that you prop her crib or matress up.I find that putting a regular pillow under her matress (head end obviously) Give her a warm bath and put vick vapour ointment on the tap so it mixes with the steam,it will loosen up the snot so you can suck as much as as possible before bed.then I usually put the humidifier on with more of that vicks vapour stuff in it, and aim it towards the bed.I also hear that rubbing vix vapour on their feet and putting socks on helps to relieve congestion.I tried it with my son and it seems to make at least a little difference. So those are the things I would reccomend.
As for it getting worse,I guess just the fever, fever=infection usually and thats when she MIGHT need to see someone, apart from that, every kid gets colds,it sucks and means a few sleepless nights but usually it will pass and be fine with no intervention.I would deffinatley get vicks vapour rub and ointment though, they seem to help with the congestion.Good luck.I know it's horrible!

Re: My 5 month old has a cold
I don't have any advice I can give you, apart from raising the crib/cot at the top end but I just wanted to say I hope Lily Mae gets better real soon for you {{Lily Mae}}
Re: My 5 month old has a cold
when Owen had a cold I used the humidifier and it made a huge difference!!!
I ran it all the time - during naps and at night. It also makes for great white noise!

Re: My 5 month old has a cold
yep, raising the head end of the crib is what i do too. I also put a couple of drops of eucolyptus (sp?) oil on a hanky and place it on the duchess in his room and that also helps him stay unblocked for the night, also the vick bavpou, i put a little on his feet, my parents use to do it with me, it works. Hope she is feeling better soon.xxx

Re: My 5 month old has a cold
Thank you for the advice. I will elevate her head for her naps and for bedtime as well. I have been also using a natural saline solution before I suck her nose with the sucker doo da, it has been helping loads. I will also try the vicks.

poor kaydie has a cold too!! i feel for you, its no fun. shes such a trooper though, im amazed at how well she is handeling it since its her first real bad cold. she keeps trying to rub her nose and keeps rubbing snot in her eyes and flips out when i wipe her nose for her! poor thing. she seems to be on the mend now though. hows lily doing now? i hope shes on the tail end of it now.
Re: My 5 month old has a cold
LM is still ill She has a sty on her lower eyelid as well, but she is in good spirits. The cold hasn't gone to her chest or ears, which is good
So sorry about Kiers and Kaydie

Re: My 5 month old has a cold
Its good it hasnt got to her ears, i think that is the worst thing ever having an ear ache!
Both my kids sick, they are cough cough cough all night, last night i was lucky to get an our strait sleep, then jesse was vomiting this morning all over the hallway carpet, poor wee man. kiers coughs and it looks like his wee eyes are gonna pop out and after he finishes coughing its almost like he is saying "ow"
I tried getting an appt at docs today but to no avail, the health system here sux big time! so the kids will just have to make do with Paracetamol. If kiers gets really bad ill take him thru to a&e so he gets to see a doc, it sounds like he is all chesty. its horrible!
