baby talk? Empty baby talk?

Post  Ginny Sun Nov 23, 2008 3:09 pm

I was wondering when everyone's babies started talking and how much...

Thane hardly says ANYTHING and I am worried. I read that at 10 mos your baby should know you and your partner by "mama" and 'dada' - Thane has been saying dada since he was 5.5 mos old..He now says "Bubba" for BLaine and dada, gaga, lala, sssss, "mama" once or twice only when VERY upset. He doesn't know when he says dada I don't think that its really his daddy. He also says 'daddy'.

I am worried though that he doesn't say mama and that he also doesn't seem to know what our names are. he responds to his own name though...

What about your babies???

Gosh Ginny, hadn't you better tell Ray!! LMAO!!!! sorry I just couldn't resist!!

But on a more serious note it sound's to me like Thane is making a varied amount of sounds for his age, in his own way he is already talking and saying thing's to you, you just don't understand Wink the fact that he doesn't say Mama all that much I really don't think is a issue, obviously it would be nice if he said it more often and he will lol
They say that by 14-20 months a baby can say between 10-20 words/sound's, so lets see......he is saying about 5 already  I think that's pretty amazing and also we need to bear in mind that babies all learn thing's at a different pace, some babies learn the phyical skills quicker than others and others will learn words quicker but might be slower on the physical milestones.

I really believe that Thane is doing VERY well indeed!! santa

LMAO Georgi!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THAT'S NOT WHAT I MEANT!!!!!!! Duh HAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I MEAN - that I don't think when he says "Dada" that he doesn't know "Hey that guy over there is daddy!" Not that I didn't know who "my baby daddy" is!! LMAO! I opened up a can on that one huh? LOL

Anyway, thank you! I am jsut worried that he isn't talking as much as he should...its like he is just kind of stopping there and not trying to say more things and it worried me... you know?

I'm sure he's fine but still...it just wouldn't be right if i wasn't worried about something Tongue

Thanks!!!

ginny! kaydance hardly said anything at 10 months old, shes just started popping off some new words here and there in the past week or two actually. right now she says mama, dada, baba, bye-bye, and some other word (lol she says it a lot but i have no clue what shes actually trying to say) and she seems to be experimenting daily with new sounds and sylables. i think thane will be just fine! as long as hes babbling lol some kids just take longer to figure words out than others. just like some kids walk before their first birthday and others dont take those first steps until they are 15-16 months old!!

Kyrah says bubba ALL the time and mumma- mostly when upset.
but that is it so far, she watches my mouth all the time and moves hers like she is trying to copy lol

Ginny,
I wouldn't be too concerned at 10 months old whatsoever!!!

Audrey says

Mama
Eeee (for daddy, but she's starting to say something that sounds more like dada now)
Baby
Hi
Hey
Baba
Muah (for kisses)
Ho ho ho
Ning (for Ming Ming on the Wonder Pets)

and just baby babbles, hehe!!

Post  Bryony Mon Nov 24, 2008 4:21 pm

It's not until nearer 1-year-old that babies are expected to start saying 'real' words and even then it is only the odd one or two. Up until then, although it sounds like words, there's rarely any true meaning in them.

Rowan babbles loads. She says 'mama', dada', 'nana', baba' 'didid', 'di-t', 'ga' 'gwa' 'yaya', 'bla' 'ssss' 'tttt', 'mmmm'. In the last couple of weeks she's started to link them all together so that it sounds like she is actually talking as she goes about her business. She has even started to use different pitches and tones, like you do when talking. However, it is all meaningless to anyone else apart from her.

She does not to my knowledge associate 'mama' with me or 'dada' with Dick at this point, or even if she does, she doesn't express this much to me. I have every faith that she understands a lot of what I say to her, but is not yet at the stage where she can express that understanding to me.

Thane is perfectly normal. All in good time. Of course, there will always be exceptions to the rule.

Talking is Ethan's favourite thing! He now has about a 60 word vocabulary and can use one phrase that includes 3 words. Its when I'm on the phone, he will say "Who is it"? Other 2 word phrases are "Whats that", "What got" and "Look wow".
He spends almost all day just pointing to things and saying "Whats that", its kinda cute but also very tiring. I can say any word and he will do his best to copy me. He can also fetch items on demand and also communicates using signals. He will point to the door where our coats are hanging and say "out" when he wants to go out. Of course he doesnt always get his way, lol.

But he still isn't walking and still can't eat properly! He's been sick twice today after I've tried giving him something solid. I hope to get him to the doctors next week, its time to get him checked out again!!

Hey Ginny - I was gonna tell you that he may not talk very early if Blaine does a lot of the talking for him. My mom took my little sister to the doctor when she was 18 months because she didn't say much. The doctor said it was because of me!!!!
Just something to keep in mind!

Jayden just started really talking more in the past month.

She says:
Mama
Dada
Jadah
Bless Me
Thank you
Hi
Eye
Please(very rarely!)
Stop
Shut up
No
Goya Goya(we have absolutely no idea what this means, but it starts every long "sentence" she says)

But, at 10 months, she was just saying mama, dada, hi, and jadah.
I just found out that she can pick Jadah out of a picture of people. She'll give me her foot if I say "give me your foot".
She knows what to do if I say give me a kiss. She also figured out how to open the pantry to bring me the box of cereal for her to eat. At first, I thought someone was leaving the pantry door open, but nope, it's not a sturdy close, and just a little turn opens it.

Awe how cute!!!

How old is she? She is sooo cute! Thane is one now and he just isn't talking much. The doc said that by 15 months he should be talking more, and not to worry, but you know me...i ALWAYS am worried. He seems to be doing very well though in all other matters. AND I would be worried about autism or something but when he is around other people he is smiling and giving "5" and makes eye contact - almost TOO much sometimes lol So, i am sure he is fine. I just know that when Blaine was 18 mos he was talking TONS and knew his ABC's. I know I am not supposed to compare and that's 6 months away...BUT I can't help but remember...

Oh well, thank you Ms. Cherry!! Smile/happy

Hey hunny,I wouldnt worry.I think he is perfectly well within the developmental milestone for his age and is doing great! Smile/happy Just an FYI,most babies say dada waybefore mama, just simply because it's easier for them to make the 'da' sound than the 'ma' sound.fact! Smile/happy So don't worry that there is a prefference.I LOL'd when I saw what you had written about the baby daddything!LOL well spotted Georgi! Wink

Anyway,I think he is fine and wouldnt worry, like everyone else said,he is well within average and you will probably find that within one week,he just starts saying 2-3 words at a time! Smile/happy

I find Audrey still doesn't say much for almost 15 months old. She recognizes when someone leaves the house and says 'hi' instead of 'bye'. She currently been saying something that sounds like 'pookie' it's soo darn cute. She has been saying the word 'die' all the time, don't know what that means....but rarely says 'mum' or 'dad'. She has her 15 month appointment next Friday, I'll let you know what happens!!
