Ok, so Thane is ALMOST 9 months old and he is breastfed still some, and also has 2nd and 3rd solid foods (Gerber). He has been on solids (rice cereal to begin with) since he was 5 or 6 months old and when he was 7 months i think, i started him on the gerber foods. He has been sick, so this COULD be it...but for about the past week or so, he NEVER wants to eat his solid food. When I give him some cheerios, he LOVES Them and will eat them over and over but when i try to give him his sweet potatoes or bananas or whatever (which he loves usually!) he shakes his head No and cries and he has even, to my dismay, grabbed the spoon and threw it!! Cry Mommy was NOT happy with that...

Do you think he is sick of solids and just wants to try finger foods or something??? He has 4 teeth - 2 on top and 2 on bottom and he has 2 more on the top coming in i think. i just don't know what to do cuz he is NOT eating well at all. he is nursing OK, not awesome or anything...

Any ideas are appreciated! lol Thanks!!!

not to scare you or anything, but kaydance started doing the exact same thing!! she did that about a month and a half ago, and no matter what i have tried since she will NOT eat more than 2 bites of baby food from me. she will eat finger foods, grown up foods, and even the gerber lil entrees, and she will let me feed her grown up foods on a spoon or fork, but no matter what i do she will not eat baby foods for me anymore!!!

now heres the real kicker, she will eat baby foods all day long off of a spoon at daycare!!! i dont get it LOL!! im just happy she is getting 2 meals a day mon-fri at daycare that are baby food and good for her. i mean i try to feed her healthy big people foods and baby appropriate snacks (wagon wheels, puffs, yogurt drops) when shes home, but i feel badly that i cant feed her the baby foods!!

and i try again about once a week or so usually, to see if its a phase and she still wont eat it lol. weve wasted so much baby food!

Sure Nika! I will call when i go pump here in a bit and i'll let you know lol

Ry, I don't know...you may be right! Mama said he is chowing down on the cheerios! So, maybe he just really likes the finger foods. I am just so scared of him choking that i have hardly given him ANYTHING! I don't know when he can start eating meat and stuff either. I thought it was 9 months...we will see. i will cal l them in a minute and i'll update you all lol

Thank you!

Ginny,I could ALWAYS tell when my son was going to get sick...2-3 days BEFORE he got sick, weather it was a cold or a bug,he was off his food.I would worry and fret and then surely enough a few days later a cold woulf show up.Or teething, that does it too. They do not want to eat when they are sick as we ofen dont.If I would just let him drink and eat what he wants.Keep offering it and maybe call the doc to reassure yourself, but I reckon his appetite will pick back up when he recovers from his little sickness! Smile/happy Teo did it ALL the time and still does it (he is almost 5)

thats cool ginny!! i look forward to hearing what your Dr. says since i never called mine lol, i just started giving her grown up foods sinces shes a crazy good chewer!! hehe, she doesnt choke on anything!

i think with kaydance it is more of a taste for better food as Ry has suggessted. she knows that mommy and daddy will give her good food so she wont eat the baby food, but at daycare all they have ever given her is the baby food and formula and snacks like the gerber products, so really i think she just wont eat it for us!

but looking forward to your update!

OK...just talked to the doc. She said that he can have the cheerios as a treat AFTER his supper, but to not let it take the place of his food. She said, he may just be still a little sick and not hungry, but when he is hungry he needs to eat. She said he only needs one jar of veggies and one jar of fruit per day and the rest is still milk. She did say that i could start on meats this weekend since he'll be 9 months old. She said that if he is wanting to self feed, then Peas that are a little mashed would be a good finger food and much healthier than cheerios. And she said that when he wants the spoon to just wait til he's done and then let him have it and he can play all he wants.

So, basically, just wait it out just like I did colic, and just like I did with him not wanting the bottle, etc etc etc. Oh well!

Thank you everyone for your feedback!!!!
