mscherry42 wrote:I am voting for Obama. I do agree that he is inexperienced in foreign policies. He did come back and say that there would have to be a "phase out" plan for our troops overseas. I'm a veteran. While I did not serve over there in Iraq or any other country fighting, I know of some who were sent. Some joined the military wanting to go "fight", others joined for other reasons. But it doesn't give you a warm fuzzy feeling to know you're fighting someone else's war, when many of them don't even want you there, and even shoot at you. We talked about this while I was in the military. We often said that if we were fighting here, or even felt like we were fighting "a war for the US" it would make a huge difference.

Also, health care. McCain wants there to be private insurance. In a perfect world, insurance companies would offer competitive rates, and we as consumers would pay great premiums for great packages. But, we don't live in a perfect world. What's going to happen is, insurance companies are going to charge out the butt for insurance, and we as consumers are going to have to pay it because we have families, no matter how much it costs, and our employers won't have to offset any of it. Now, I do understand that with Obama, there is the risk of more government involvement. That can is giving a lot of power to a government who can jack us over, better yet, who has jacked us over. Well, I'm willing to take that risk with Obama.

Taxes: I'm not rich. I'm nowhere close to it, I'm nowhere close to "well off" either. Obama's tax plan seems to want to "level" the playing field and "stick" it to the more affluent for lack of a better phrase. Sorry, but I'm all for it. He seems like he's looking out for the "average joe", and that's the category that I fall under. McCain seems to cater to a different category, a category that I'm not in.

I really don't care about they VP's. I know that I should, since McCain is old as dirt(sorry, but as a president, he is). But, recent history shows us that we haven't really "needed" them as critically as in the distant past.

These comments are just my comments base upon my limited knowledge, research, and understanding of the 2008 election politics. Confused

Mscherry, I am going to have to politely disagree with you. Smile/happy

90 percent of all tax revenues come from the top 5-7 percent of earners. Those 5-7 percent are the employers of the "average joe". By imposing higher tax on them and their companies, it will make it so that they will not be able to employ more "average joes".

If there is not enough employment, there is a low level of productivity, which means there will be no "level playing field" as you said. There will be lots of unemployed people competing for mediocre crappy jobs, just to have any form of employment.

Taking away the incentive to be successful is counter productive to a growing economy. For example in highly socialist Sweden, they are now changing the rules so there is more incentive to become wealthy, because they realize that the country will go bankrupt if everybody stays in the comfort zone of mediocrity.

Obama comes across as a great guy with a genuine intent to make like better for most of us, but doing this through government regulation and control, and fining you if you don't adhere to it, will completely backfire. People don't respond to rules, they respond to incentives.

P.S. By having said that, I want you to know that I respect everyone's decision to vote any way they choose, and I don't look down on anyone for voting for Obama, or McCain, or even voting for Independant or Libertarian parties. Everyone should go with what their gut tells them. I am glad when people vote at all, since so many people don't bother.

I disagree with more of Obama's views than I do John McCain's, and although I don't really care too much for either of them, in the end, I voted Republican.

Share your political views - Page 3 Empty A little afraid...

Post  crazymomwife Mon Nov 03, 2008 12:47 am

I am a bit afraid to say my views here since, "princess longbottem" has just said she can't wait to meet me. So i won't say much. I really dislike both of them but have done EXTENSIVE research on both, and truly believe most of the things said even on these posts and all over about Obama are alot of mis information given by the republican party as scare tactics. I am a true republican don't get me wrong, but McCain is not a Republican in my book. If anyone does good research on Obama and ignores the scare tactics that the Republican party have used to make people afraid of him, you would find he is a genuinly good man. I agree with about 75% of what he does. Now the problem is I don't know if he can really accomplish the things I believe personally he would like to do, being in the party he is in. So sadly I am pulled. Sarah Palin lies. It is sad. during the republican convention when she was introduced I got excited and thought, ok, maybe I can get on bourd with him now. But it really doesn't take a whole lot of research on her to know, that she isn't who she says she is.
My plea to all is just to do your own research. You can't believe everything on conservative talk radio, which I love to listen too, but am fully aware of. This is such an important election. NEVER make a decision out of fear. I have a natural rebellious side, so when I feel like someone is trying to convince me based on rumors or has no facts, I naturally want to look at the other side.

I am not for Obama, or for McCain, I am just for searching out truth. Which can be very hard to find when it comes to Politics but so important.
Truly I feel like to vote with my heart and what I believe I would vote for Ron Paul. So do you do what is really what your heart believes even though it won't make a difference?

(don't tell me to vote for him just so Obama loses a vote either! hee hee)

So in our house as it sits now, i am leaning Obama and my Husband McCain, so our votes may wipe each other out anyway!

Tiffany, hope you still want to meet me!!! Smile/happy

crazymomwife, I'd have a hard time voting for anyone other than Obama or McCain since it's wouldn't make a difference. I have been known to vote for an unlikely candidate in the primaries though.

And hubby and I often cancel out each other! But we vote anyway of course!

I can't say I've researched each candidate extensively but this whole let's tax health care benefits of McCain's scares the crap out of me. We receive free health insurance through my husband's union if he works enough hours. If not, we have to make self-payments to make up the difference, which we have this year. I don't want to be taxed on our "free" insurance -- my hubby's contractors have to pay in over $12/hr for every hour he works. That's a crap-load of money to be taxed on when it's not actually income! I realize McCain's plan would have to be approved by Congress and maybe that's unlikely, but the whole idea scares me.

He He. Crazymomwife, don't worry in the least. I feel the same as you.... I don't agree with any of the candidates entirely. I REALLY don't agree with Obama. I am a libertarian, but I didn't feel that if I voted for the libertarian candidate, it would do any good, because he has no chance of winning. I felt that McCain was really the lesser of two evils, and that I'd rather him win than Obama.

Having said that, I feel it is unfair that the Democrat and Republican parties are the only ones who are spotlighted. I think that ALL parties should have equal participation in the General Election process, regardless of how much money they have.

I do agree entirely that we should all search out the truth, and do what we think is best.

I think Obama will win though. He has 100 more electoral votes than John McCain does.

Crazymomwife, I still want to meet you very much Smile/happy

Providing that either aren't as sh*t as Bush, then there's hope lol. A country needs one who doesn't let religion over ride policies (i.e abortion) and wants to avoid war....so no one like Bush lol.

Post  Lily*Blossom Tue Nov 04, 2008 10:53 am

I don't think Bush is sh*t. I don't think it's fair to say that without considering how many difficult things he has been faced with during his two terms. I think he has a backbone, and people don't like it. A lot of scary things happened shortly after he became president, and he had to clean it up. He made a lot of difficult decisions, he made some decisions that involved a lot of spending, which is of course, difficult. I hate war, but what the heck were we supposed to do, stand back and do nothing? We've done a lot of good in Iraq, it was Bush's persistence that finally led to the capture of Saddam. So it's easy to just blame Bush for everything, but unfortunately, Bill Clinton started a terrible debt process which was already spiraling downward, and Bush entered shortly thereafter, and was blamed for everything.

Here are 10 things that I am proud of president Bush for:
1. Boosting Aid to Africa Threefold

A story from the Washington Post says, "The president has tripled direct humanitarian and development aid to the world's most impoverished continent since taking office and recently vowed to double that increased amount by 2010 -- to nearly $9 billion."

2. Preventing a Nuclear War Between India and Pakistan
India and Pakistan have been arch rivals since independence in 1947. The addition of nuclear weapons into the dispute (India tested their first thermonuclear weapon in May of 1998. Pakistan got the bomb later that same month) could have meant global disaster. And it still could.

3. Taking Down the A.Q. Khan Nuclear Proliferation Network
A.Q. Kahn is considered the father of Pakistan's nuclear program. But several years ago, he confessed to leaking nuclear know-how and materials to Iran and Libya. Security experts suspect he also helped other countries including North Korea. Kahn is under house arrest in Pakistan. Critics say the Bush Administration should have acted faster on the Khan situation.

4. Getting Libya To Give Up Its WMD Programs And Renounce Terrorism

In late 2003, President Bush announced that "quiet diplomacy" had led to a breakthrough with Libya. Libya agreed to give up all weapons of mass destruction programs and allow international inspection of suspected weapons sites. The president has implied that Libya agreed to all this after seing how the United States reacted to Iraq's suspected weapons program. Critics paint a different picture.

5. Turning Independent-Minded India Into a Strategic Ally

The United States has engaged India on many topics. The most controversial is a plan to share nuclear technology with India in a way which critics say will do grave damage to the global Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty.

6. After a Rough Start, Sticking To a Pragmatic China Policy

There are no easy choices for the United States when it comes to China. Our interests in Chinese human rights, labor rights, and foreign involvement compete with the fact that China is a major American customer and big parts of America's foreign debt are held by China. The administration has done what it can to steer a middle course... which is often satisfying to no one.

7. Getting North Korea To Shut Down Its Nuclear Reactor (Eventually)

In what is considered a diplomatic "win" for U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice over the more aggressive policies of Vice President Dick Cheney, the United States has made slow but steady progress in dealing with North Korea.

8. Decapitating Al Qaeda's Top Leadership And Not Having a 2nd 9/11
Proving why something didn't happen is difficult, but we have to acknowledge that there has not been another 9/11 level attack on America. And many members of Al Qaeda are no longer with us.

9. Giving Immigration Reform The Old College Try

The president's immigration reform bill ran into a buzzsaw of criticism from the right and the left. The bill eventually failed (twice), and now we are left with the same old broken system. The About Guides to Immigration have full coverage.

10. Challenging His Party On Harmful Ag Subsidies While Pushing Free Trade
The United States has seriously reduced the subsidies it pays to farmers and pushed for worldwide reductions to level the playing field for international trade.

Share your political views - Page 3 Empty Re: Share your political views

Post  BethG Tue Nov 04, 2008 11:11 am

I went out and voted this morning! I was the 156th ballot cast at my polling place. I was a bit irritated that I had to wait 20minutes.....people were taking sooooo freakin' long to color in their little bubbles! But I guess I shouldn't complain. My boss was saying he saw reports on CNN of lines a block long, of lines that were 2-3 hours long. Wow. That's just messed up.

I was still quite undecided about our Indiana governor's race. I voted for our current governor the first time but was unhappy with a couple of things he did -- although I truly felt he had the state's best interests at heart. And after watching one of his commercials, albeit a political one, I realized he has been effective in quite a few areas. And his Democratic female opponent....well she's kind of a loose cannon. I'm a bit afraid of what might happen if she's elected. I asked hubby his opinion and he even said he might have to vote for "that jackass," meaning our current governor. So I cast my vote this morning to re-elect the governor.

Now I predicted earlier that whichever party won Indiana's governor would also win the votes for the President. I voted for the Republican governor -- my boss predicts McCain will take the state. We shall see! Boss also says that if he's wrong and Indiana does goes to Obama, it's all over and Obama won the election -- essentially saying that if Obama can win Indiana, he can win anywhere. I'll be watching the reports with interest tonight.

Obama will win. Mark my words. I personally don't want it do happen, but it will happen. He will end up with 100 more electoral votes than McCain.

Beth, I am so very happy that you voted today. We need Americans to get out and vote, it is so very important. Sending a high five your way!

I was lazy, and sent in my ballot via the postal service Smile/happy I didn't want to stand in line with the baby for goodness knows how long.

One of the offices in my apartment complex which happens to be right next to me, is a voting station. If I had known that, I probably wouldn't have sent my ballot via the postal service.

Angel, I just wanted to say, that I entirely agree with you. You just never know what a candidate will actually do, and what they will follow through with, until they are actually in office. I think that both candidates have some good ideas, but I don't think they realize how difficult it will be to get those ideas up and running.

Thanks for starting this Tiff. I will keep most of my opinions to myself but I will tell you what burns me up quicker than anything is someone taking MY hard earned money and giving it to someone who has the SAME opportunities as I had only they CHOSE to do nothing with it!! Sure, going to college and trying to better yourself is NOT easy, sitting home and getting your check at the first of the month is! And I can't stand that in this country you just have to sit back and let them take it away and give it to people who just didn't want to try. I had to leave my stepson crying on many occasions when he was only 3 years old telling me "You don't want to go to school! You want to stay at home with me!" And I had to leave him crying for me :( I made MAJOR sacrifices to go to school and get my job that I have now and I am NOT rich, but our kids don't want for things! We are middle class, and taxed out the @ss! Its going to be worse if Obama gets it, and I agree Tiff, it looks like he will....

I am so nervous. I am just visualizing McCain winning. He is standing on the pulpit, confetti is flying. Cindy is by his side. Everyone is cheering. John is smiling and waving away saying,"Thank you my friends. Thank you my friends."

Sarah Palin and her family are by his side. They are smiling and waving. Sarah is saying,"Good job for voting for the Maverick, the Maverick."
